I wanted to setup a wireless ip security camera that could do ptz that I could remotely control from my iPhone and from the web.
This is the solution I came up with for less than $50.
This is the camera I bought:
EasyN FS-613B-M166 Wireless/Wired Pan & Tilt IP Camera with 15 Meter Night Vision and 3.6mm Lens (67° Viewing Angle) - Black NEWEST MODEL
The video quality isnt great but the camera has been pretty reliable for the last month and Its only $37.
It was a little tricky to setup but not too bad.
You first need to plug it into either your computer or router with the ethernet cable and then setup your wireless settings.
I also setup a static ip address for the camera on my home network so it never changes.
I couldnt seem to get Easy-n's dynamic ip address service to work which allows you to have a static url that you can access from the web so instead I use my dynamic IP address from my internet provider which hasnt seemed to change in the last couple weeks.
After I got the camera on the wireless network and wrote down the ip address I then used this software to connect to it and control it from my iPhone.
Its on sale now for only $3.99
It seems that foscam software and protocols are similar to what the EasyN uses.
I also went in on the last screen of uFoscam and setup my gmail email account so that it would email me images whenever the alarm was triggered.
To not get your email clogged with pictures Id recommend pointing the camera toward an area without alot of movement. Otherwise you will get an email every time a car or person goes by your house. I pointed my camera now at my garden and front door so I only get emails when I enter or leave the house.
You can see the live camera here:
<Pictures coming soon>
Just use "guest" as the username with no password.
It just rained yesterday and the camera looked like it got a little wet but it didn't die.
I positioned it under the roof edge and gutter so rain wont fall directly on it but if the wind is blowing it will probably get hit.
Im also finding that for some reason the camera sometimes moves and points somewhere else so I need to go in once a day and check.
For round 2 with cameras I will probably buy this camera because the video quality will be better because of the IR-Cut filter
Foscam FI8910W Pan & Tilt IP/Network Camera with Two-Way Audio and Night Vision (Black)
Also I installed the iSpy Connect software on my desktop computer to record video and save it on my computer.
The main issue with this was it was tricky getting it to connect to the camera correctly and be able to control it.
Im still loooking for better software to use. Any suggestions?
